DIY Candy Corn Wine Bottles – With a Bit of Shine!
Happy Monday!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. The weather was beautiful here in Arkansas. Even though I don’t want to say it, as we had so much rain in the spring and summer, we could actually use a little rain in our area. It’s time for the trees to start turning and showing their colors but I am afraid it is so dry we won’t get those beautiful colors I look forward to this time of year.
So I am going to try to bring a little color into your day with an easy Candy Corn Wine Bottles tutorial!
Not long ago, my good friend Amy sent me a pick of this cute wine bottle project and suggested I add them to my blog.
I love working with wine bottles and have already done one bottle project this fall with my Chalkboard Wine Bottles with Bling but this one just looked so much fun to do I had to try it too.
I had seen these Candy Corn Wine Bottles on Pinterest and thought how easy they would be to make … but as always I wanted to change things up a bit.
Candy Corn Wine Bottles – With a Bit of Shine!
I began by spraying the wine bottles in a flat white paint. I used flat because that is what I had on hand but really any white spray paint would do.
I then sprayed the bottom in a gloss yellow and followed with an orange gloss sprayed around the middle. I researched a piece of candy corn, (wink), and realized the orange stripe is definitely larger than the other two colors, so I worked to make my Candy Corn Wine Bottles to replicate that look.
Now, they were adorable just the way they were but I had an idea in mind and I wanted to add a bit of spark to my Candy Corn Wine Bottles and decided to add a bit of glitter to make them shine!
On the top, over the white paint, I added a bit of spray glitter glue in an iridescent color.
To the orange and yellow areas, I simply added a bit of fine glitter to a small amount of Mod Podge and made “glitter paint” – orange glitter for the orange and yellow for the yellow. I found a holiday pack of glitter that had all of the colors I needed at JoAnn Fabrics.
Just a little helpful hint – meaning … don’t do what I did. The first color I made was the yellow. I thought, ok … I really want these to be glittery, and so I dumped the whole package of glitter into my small amount of Mod Podge, thinking if I really want them glittery, I need to use a whole lot of glitter. Wrong! It works best to use a smaller amount of glitter and give your bottle a light coat of glitter paint and then when the coat dries, add another layer of glitter. I found this was the best process and eliminated large masses of glitter stuck to my bottle. Using less glitter and more coats gave the glitter affect a nice and smooth finish.
Once the bottle had dried, I tied a piece of scrap burlap around each top to help hide the top of the bottle and give it a more finished look.
I added a few fresh floral stems to each bottle and placed them in my kitchen vignette.
I found these wonderful mason jar toppers at Joann Fabric too and I love them! I added candy corn to the bottom of the jars and placed a tea light into the top to create matching candles.
The toppers were silver and my mason jar rings were gold but no problem …. I quickly sprayed them with a bit of Rustoleum Metallic Flat Antique Nickel and they matched perfectly.
We love candy corn and peanuts mixed together, (tastes just like a Pay Day bar), so I tucked a bowl of that in my vignette for those little cravings …..
…. Added a few fallen leaves and a couple of mini pumpkins and the vignette was complete.
I knew the Candy Corn Wine Bottles would glow in the candlelight.
They gave just the look I was hoping for.
This look is perfect for the Halloween holiday and right through the fall season.
What quick and easy decorating ideas do you have for the holiday? I would love to see them!
